I wish there was more functionality to Germinate. I would like to be able to get the printer to start heating up while I generate my gcode. That would be so much better! Is there any way to see logs when something won't finish generating?

I've found that passing troublesome STL files through Microsoft 3D Builder (add model, let it auto-fix any issues found, then save as STL again) is a good way of fixing them. Better than NetFabb or any other STL fixer I've tried, in fact. Reducing the triangles count on very complex models (you can use MeshMixer's "reduce" function for this) will usually allow files that would otherwise fail to be successfully parsed by Germinate.

I will need to look into 3D builder. Not one I had used before.
